ZTEC ZT1000PXI GPS Time and Frequency Synchronization Module
The ZTEC ZT1000PXI is a precision PXI module designed to provide a reliable high-accuracy frequency reference and to provide additional synchronization features to support automated test and measurement systems. The PXI module utilizes a stable OCXO that provides a high-stability 10 MHz time base, which is superior to the reference clock typically provided with the PXI chassis. The ZT1000PXI allows the user to manage the PXI star trigger system and the eight standard PXI triggers to facilitate precise timing between multiple instruments that are located on the same chassis.
One of the primary features of the ZT1000PXI is the ability to route and distribute the trigger signals. The Synchronization Module manages thirteen matched-delay star trigger lines and eight bidirectional triggers through a cross-point switch. The cross-point switch allows the user to select how the trigger signals will be routed from the backplane of the PXI chassis to the front panel connectors. The flexibility of this design allows the user to synchronize multiple-chassis systems and to correlate measurements that have been taken on a large number of channels. For the highest degree of timing accuracy, an optional GPS receiver can be integrated into the ZT1000PXI. The GPS system disciplines the internal oscillator using the atomic clock network. This provides the highest degree of long-term stability and eliminates drift. Additionally, the GPS system provides the capability to timestamp trigger events based on the Universal Time Code (UTC). The GPS system has the capability to timestamp trigger events with a resolution of 25 nanoseconds. The GPS system also has the capability to generate scheduled or periodic trigger outputs that are synchronized to global time.
The ZT1000PXI has several features that enhance the capability of the test system. The module has programmable timed trigger output, a direct digital synthesizer that generates phase-locked sine waves up to 10 MHz, and standard time mark outputs such as one pulse per second. In addition to these hardware features, the ZT1000PXI has plug-and-play driver software that supports most programming environments, including LabVIEW and C/C++. The module also contains a large set of examples that allow users to quickly get started. The Synchronization Module is used in applications that require strict synchronization, such as distributed data acquisition, field service and maintenance, and mixed-signal test systems. These applications benefit from the ability of the ZT1000PXI to ensure that measurements are valid and that events are correlated between all of the instruments involved.
