Spirent SMB-2000 Chassis
The Spirent SMB-2000 is an industry-standard network performance analysis system, also known as the SmartBits 2000. It is a high-end system designed to test the limits of everything from simple 10/100 Mbps Ethernet to Gigabit Ethernet, ATM, and Frame Relay. Today, this system is employed in development labs, large enterprise networks, and among most network equipment manufacturers, for performing exhaustive performance testing with a multitude of applications and protocols. With each unit SMB-2000 customizable to accommodate up to 20 single-port SmartCards, users of the system can tailor it to carry out a wide range of testing tasks. Linearly scalable to support test systems of up to 640 ports, which can be driven locally or remotely over the internet, these make for ideal use in complex and large-scale network assessments.
The SMB-2000 addresses the needs of different classes of users: the engineering, production, and quality assurance testing by network equipment manufacturers; the benchmarking and certification of devices from various manufacturers by evaluation labs. The telecom providers and ISPs then use it to conduct end-to-end performance testing, pinpointing weaknesses in the networks. On the part of enterprise users, the system allows them to monitor throughput and therefore avoid overloads on their own networks. Advanced features include remote control over the internet, support for GPS synchronization for precision latency measures, and up to 512 chassis in a synchronous mode using SmartBits extension units. It also includes the ability to have multiple users operate the system simultaneously, therefore allowing many users in multi-user environments.
Bundled software, comprising SmartWindow™, SmartLib™, and SmartApplications™, forms one complete performance analysis toolkit. The system includes a 10 Mbps Ethernet connection to the host PC and supports an array of SmartCards that will be selected depending on the particular testing needs. These SmartCards have a range of technologies, including Ethernet, ATM, and Frame Relay, and can be added in any combination to fill the slots in the chassis for extensive customization based on the range of tests required.
The SMB-2000 comes with 90-264 VAC input, is rack mountable, and weighs 27 lbs when fully loaded. The environmental temperature at which the equipment can operate is between 59°F and 104°F with unimpeded airflow.
