Ettus Research USRP X300 Software-Defined Radio
The Ettus Research USRP X300 (part number 783144-01) is a powerful, high-performance software-defined radio (SDR) product that has been developed for all wireless communication system development and deployment needs. This flexible SDR solution can be implemented using a scalable hardware architecture that includes two extended bandwidth daughterboard slots, providing RF coverage from DC to 6 GHz. Each channel can provide up to 160 MHz of instantaneously available baseband bandwidth, allowing wideband signals to be processed. At the heart of this processing capability is a programmable Kintex-7 XC7K325T Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) that contains significant digital signal processing capabilities that will allow users to implement their own PHY layers, perform complex filtering operations and analyze signals in real time on the hardware.
In addition to the processing capabilities, connectivity and system integration are key areas where the USRP X300 excels. There are multiple high-speed interfaces available to meet varying data throughput needs. These include PCIe for desktop workstations, dual 10 Gigabit Ethernet for high data rate applications, and dual 1 Gigabit Ethernet for typical laboratory use. Providing these multiple interface options allows for seamless integration into larger test beds and networks. A high-accuracy clocking and synchronization subsystem is included in the design of the device, that optionally includes a GPS-disciplined oscillator and support for external clock sources such as the OctoClock for multi-channel phase-coherent operation in MIMO and array-type applications.
The USRP X300 is housed in a compact 1U form factor that is approximately half of a standard 19-inch-wide rack mount enclosure. Therefore, the device is well suited for both bench top prototype testing and permanent installation in rack mounted enclosures. Cross-platform compatibility and interoperability with a broad range of development environments such as GNU Radio, LabVIEW, and custom C++ or Python based development environments are provided through the use of the open source UHD driver software. The USRP X300 is a valuable tool for researchers and engineers developing advanced wireless solutions such as 5G prototyping, spectrum monitoring, cognitive radio and other next generation industrial wireless systems.
