National Instruments / Ettus Research TwinRX USRP Daughterboard
Compatible with both the USRP X300 and USRP X310 platforms, the TwinRX (part number: 784097-01) is a 2-channel USRP daughterboard from Ettus Research (an NI Brand). As a superheterodyne receiver, this device is an excellent choice for applications such as direction finding and high-performance spectrum monitoring. This daughterboard has 80 MHz of bandwidth per channel for a total of 160 MHz. It also boasts helpful features such as independent tuning, RF Shielding, and preselection filters.
LO sharing is another capability of the TwinRX. Each of the channels, labeled CH1 and CH2, have two local oscillators, labeled as LO1 and LO2. The local oscillator for a channel can come from a variety of sources, including external inputs, companion channel synthesizers, or internal synthesizers. A single TwinRX arrangement does not require LO sharing connections. LO sharing wires are only required when two TwinRX daughterboards are used in a single USRP X300/X310.
This versatile device is equipped with six antenna ports that have MMCX RF connectors, labeled J1 through J6. These connectors each have a 50 ohm input impedance. By default, Antenna 1 (labeled RX1) and Antenna 2 (labeled RX2) are routed to Channel 1 and Channel 2, respectively. This routing arrangement can be changed to share a single antenna with both channels, or to switch the antennas. The damage threshold of these antenna inputs is 10 dBm, meaning that lower input powers are advised in order to achieve the optimal dynamic range and noise figure.
The UHD software API allows the TwinRX daughterboard to be seamlessly integrated into current applications and to achieve antenna mapping. The “normal antenna selection” function allows either channel of the TwinRX to be independently set to use any of the two antenna connectors, RX1 and RX2.
In terms of environmental specifications, the operating temperature ranges from 0°C to 40°C. The operating humidity range spans from 10% to 90% and should be non-condensing.
