National Instruments USB-8486 Fieldbus Interface Device
The USB-8486 is a Fieldbus Interface Device. The NI USB-8486 Fieldbus Interface Device is made by National Instruments. The USB-8486 is available for purchase with NI part numbers 781160-01 and 781160-02. These variants have the same technical performance parameters, but only vary in the options of screw retention and mounting options. The NI USB-8486 device supports the FOUNDATION Fieldbus. In industrial control applications, the FOUNDATION Fieldbus is a widely acclaimed standard for signal communication.
The USB-8486 Fieldbus Interface Device comes with NI-FBUS Communication Manager software, which is compatible with the Windows OS. The compatible software programs for the NI USB-8486 device are the NI-FBUS Configurator, NI-FBUS Monitor, and LABVIEW graphical programming. The NI-FBUS Configurator serves the purpose of configuration and setting for FOUNDATION Fieldbus through dynamic user-interface tools. The monitoring, debugging, troubleshooting, and analysis of FOUNDATION Fieldbus data is carried out by the NI-FBUS Monitor application.
The National Instruments USB-8486 Fieldbus Interface Device is a plug-and-play device that is available with a single port supporting USB 2.0 connectivity. The maximum baud rate of the USB-8486 device is 31.25 kb/s. The NI USB-8486 features a standard H1 interface for Fieldbus which is provided with a 9-pin male D-SUB connector. The USB-8486 Fieldbus Interface Device requires up to 300 mA current in working mode, while only 2.5 mA current is drawn in suspended mode. The NI USB-8486 device is designed for indoor applications only. The performance parameters are ideal when the device is operated within the ambient temperature range of 0 to 55o C.
