National Instruments 782124-01 Serial Interface Device
Part Number 782124-01 is the identifying part number for the National Instruments PCIe-8431/2 Serial Interface Device. It is a 2-port serial interface used in high-speed communication with RS485 and RS422 devices. On the other hand, it can also work as a standard COM port for programs that use serial communication. Users can choose between 2-wire or 4-wire transceiver modes for either half-duplex or full-duplex communications.
The 782124-01 comes with advanced features like DMA transfers, multithreading, and microprocessor support. Since DMA allows direct access to the memory without CPU overhead, data transfer is faster. Likewise, it also features standard and nonstandard baud rates from the range of 2 baud up to a maximum of 3000 kbaud. It has an onboard FIFO buffer of size 128 bytes. When operated in normal conditions, it draws 325 mA of current at +5 VDC.
To configure and program the 782124-01, you will need NI serial drivers that ships with the device. The driver eases the configuration and programming of the device. Likewise, it also has the NI-VISA API, which is NI’s programming interface to control peripherals like Ethernet/LXI, GPIB, serial, USB, PXI, etc. in NI devices using application development environments like LabVIEW and Measurement Studio.
