National Instruments 779790-01 CAN Interface Device 

National Instruments part number 779790-01 is an identifying part number for the USB-8472, a CAN Interface Device. This device features advanced filtering modes (self-reception, listen-only) and Low-Speed/Fault-Tolerance. This USB-based controller area network interface has a single port and is designed for CAN automotive network applications. The device’s low-speed/fault-tolerant physical layer connects the CAN controller to bus wires, and it includes integrated physical layer transceivers, eliminating the need for additional dongles. 

The NI 779790-01 CAN Interface Device features an industrial-standard SJA1000 CAN controller from Philips. This controller supports all ISO 11898 CAN protocols and functionality, operating in various modes such as listen-only, error counter access, self-reception, and sleep/wakeup. Moreover, it supports extended (29-bit) and standard (11-bit) arbitration IDs and is compatible with J1939 protocol networks. It requires about 250 mA of current at 5 VDC, with its physical layers powered internally through a DC-to-DC converter and electrically isolated up to 500V. 

The device uses the NI-CAN driver software, which is compatible with Microsoft Windows and offers a detailed API for Visual Basic 6.0, Microsoft Visual C/C++, Borland C/C++, and NI LabVIEW. Additionally, NI Spy and Bus Monitor utilities come with the driver software. The CAN Interface Device also offers software-selectable termination for various low-speed configurations. The device features one input/output trigger line and one input/output clock line, both of which are compatible with TTL (Transistor-Transistor Logic) levels. At power-on, the device is in a high-impedance input state (High-Z). It responds to rising edge triggers, ensuring accurate and timely operations.
