National Instruments 779538-01 PXI Serial Interface Module
The National Instruments 779538-01, often referred to as the PXI-8432/4, is a high-performance PXI serial interface module designed for high-speed, port-to-port isolated communication with RS232 devices. This module provides reliable and effective data transmission by supporting multithreading, multiprocessor systems, and high-performance Direct Memory Access (DMA) transfers. Because the NI serial interfaces work with common COM ports, they can be easily integrated with serial communication applications that already exist.
With an average usage of 925 mA at +5 VDC and a maximum peak consumption of 2 A, the 779538-01 is designed to meet rigorous industrial standards. It draws power from the PCI bus. The RS-232 module facilitates fast data transmission by supporting a maximum serial transfer rate of 1,000,000 bps. Moreover, according to TIA-EIA-232-F 2.1.4 specifications, RS-232 communication can handle a maximum cable length of 2,500 pF equivalent. In order to protect itself from electrostatic discharge, the module also has strong data line ESD protection of ± 15 kV.
As tested under IEC-60068-2-1 and IEC-60068-2-2 standards, the 779538-01, which is intended for a variety of applications, performs well in the ambient temperature range of 0 to 55 °C. In accordance with IEC-60068-2-56 requirements, it can tolerate relative humidity values of 10% to 90% without condensing. The module is stored in a range of -40 to 70 °C and non-condensing humidity ranges of 5% to 95%.
According to IEC-60068-2-27 standards and MIL-PRF-28800F specifications, the module has an operating shock resistance of up to 30 g peak with a half-sine, 11 ms pulse. Beyond the criteria of MIL-PRF-28800F, Class 3, it can also tolerate random vibrations during operation, from 5 to 500 Hz at 0.3 grms, and non-operational vibrations, from 5 to 500 Hz at 2.4 grms.
The dimensions of the 779538-01 module are 16.0 × 10.0 cm (6.3 × 3.9 in.), which allows it to fit into a 3U slot. Its weight is 147 grams. For I/O connections, it has four modular RJ-50 connectors with 10 positions. The gadget has a pollution degree of 2 and is appropriate for indoor usage at elevations up to 2,000 meters at ambient temperature of 25 °C.
