National Instruments SCXI-1161 General-Purpose Switch Module

The SCXI-1161 (Part Number: 776572-61) is an 8-Channel General-Purpose Switch Module with individual single-pole double-throw (SPDT) (Form C), latching relays. These relays are ideal for switching, routing, and controlling medium-level signals. Since this Switch Module’s relays can switch at a maximum of 8 A at 125 Vrms, 6 A at 250 Vrms, or 5 A at 30 VDC, the SCXI 1161 is well-suited for higher power applications. Every channel has a normally closed (NC), normally open (NO), and common (COM) terminal. Two or more NI SCXI-1161 modules can be utilized in one or more chassis to result in the capability of switching and controlling thousands of signals. This module has a maximum switching rate of 3 operations per second and is completely software programmable.

When the SCXI-1161 Switch Module is used with an SCXI chassis, the SCXI chassis can function as a controller or switcher in applications such as industrial-process monitoring, laboratory testing, and production testing. The NI SCXI-1161 functions to its full extent with National Instruments MIO boards; Lab-NB, Lab-PC, Lab-PC+, Lab-LC, and PC-LPM-16/PnP boards; and with the DIO-24, DIO-32F, and DIO-96 boards. There are also several optional accessories that can be used with the SCXI-1161 module. These accessories include: a one-slot cable extender, a multichassis adapter, and cables and cable assemblies. The SCXI-1161 is run using the NI-SWITCH driver software.

The back-signal connector on the SCXI-1161 module is a 50-pin male ribbon-cable header. The mating connector for the back-signal connector is a 50-position polarized ribbon-socket connector with strain relief. Additionally, the module is equipped with a 16 x 2 minicombicon header, and 24 screw terminal I/O connectors. It has a relay operate and release time of 15 ms.

The NI device weighs 12 oz, and measures 6.8 x 8.0 x 1.2 in. in physical dimensions. It has a recommended operating temperature range of 0 °C to 50 °C, a storage temperature range of –20 °C to 70 °C, and a non-condensing relative humidity range of 5% to 85%.

The SCXI-1161 has been declared Obsolete and is no longer available from National Instruments, but the General-Purpose Switch Module will still be available for purchase and repairs in perpetuity with Apex Waves.
