National Instruments cRIO-9052 CompactRIO StarFabric Interface
The cRIO-9052 (part numbers: 779506-01, 779528-01, 779529-01, 779530-01) is a CompactRIO StarFabric Interface from National Instruments. When used in conjunction with the NI 8310 StarFabric interface, the cRIO-9052 may be connected to and controlled from any cRIO reconfigurable chassis from a Windows host or a host that is running the LabVIEW Real-Time Module. The host system is the PXI chassis, PC, or laptop computer where the NI 8310 is installed. While part number 779506-01 represents the standard version of the cRIO-9052, the additional part numbers represent different kit variations. Part number 779528-01 represents the cardbus kit, 779529-01 is for the PXI kit, and part number 779530-01 is for the PCI kit.
In order to fully operate the cRIO-9052, you will need either a laptop, PC, or PXI chassis. You will also need a reconfigurable CompactRIO chassis, an NI-8310, two shielded CAT5 ethernet cables, and a 9 V to 35 V power supply. Additionally, you will need a ferrite for each cable and two ferrites for each input of the power supply (for a total of six ferrites).
The difference in length between the transmit and receive cables for the device should not exceed 1 inch. The maximum cable length for the StarFabric Interface is 14 m. The interface for the StarFabric communication of the device features 4 LVDS pairs for both “transmit” and “receive”. The typical communication rate is 50 MB/s, while the theoretical maximum measures 133 MB/s.
The interface can operate on as little as 6 V of power, but it must be powered up using 9 V or more. The maximum power consumption of the cRIO-9052 alone is 1.5 W, but this maximum increases to 17 W if the device is supplying power to 8 modules.
The approximate physical dimensions of the cRIO-9052 measure 77.3 mm x 90.2 mm x 88.1 mm (3.04 in. x 3.55 in. x 3.47 in.), and it weighs in at around 546 g (19.2 oz). Designed for indoor use only, the StarFabric Interface operates best within an operating temperature range of –40°C to 70°C. When not in use, the device can be kept within a storage temperature range of –40°C to 85°C.
