National Instruments PXIe-5860 Vector Signal Transceiver
The National Instruments PXIe-5860 (Part Number: 789449-01) is designed as a very powerful radio frequency vector signal transceiver (VST) for sophisticated automated testing and measurement systems. This PXI Express module combines together a wideband vector signal analyzer and a vector signal generator within a single slot, making it a simple test solution for stimulus-response applications. It is used in the design, characterization and production testing of new wireless devices from 5G NR and WiFi 6/6E to earlier standards. The software-defined architecture of the instrument with NI's RFmx measurement personalities and LabVIEW affords unparalleled flexibility in signal analysis and generation for many of the complex tasks present throughout the aerospace, defense and telecommunications communities, leading to the applications of the instrument.
A key differentiator of the PXIe-5860 system design is the scalable configuration. Either as a powerful standalone VST or together with two of the PXIe-5633 Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) modules, the PXIe-5860 is able to be used to form a single combined VST and VNA instrument. This combined instrument, named PXIe-5860 with S-parameters, allows full characterization of devices, including scattering parameter testing, to be accomplished with the use of the same test ports without the need to alter the physical connections to the test ports. This greatly reduces the complexity of the test system and allows the reduction of test time throughput for many RF component testing applications such as amplifiers, filters and mixers.
The platform is accurate and fast. It utilizes a fast high-speed PCI Express interface for data distribution and FPGA processing speed of signal manipulation in real time. With a very large instantaneous bandwidth, both capture and output of test signals can be made so wideband signals such as power amplifier testing with digital predistortion (DPD) can be tested analytically with wideband waveforms and transient phenomena examined. This is also true for signals utilized in radar and spectrum monitoring applications. The collapsing together of many instrument types utilized onto a modular software-based platform gives the National Instruments PXIe-5860 a future-proofed base for fast development cycles, potentially ensuring accuracy of measurement in the most severe RF environments.
