National Instruments PXIe-5841 PXI Vector Signal Transceiver

The PXIe-5841 (part numbers: 785832-01, 786982-01, 788842-01, 788843-01, 788844-01, and 788845-01) is a PXI Vector Signal Transceiver manufactured by National Instruments. The PXIe-5841 uses LabVIEW FPGA based software for a wide range of applications, and it's performance can be customized through software tunable architecture. One of the prominent applications of the PXIe-5841 is testing the wireless standards, including the validation and testing of Wi-Fi and 5G NR signals. The fast measurement speed, reduced noise ratio, and flexibility of customized operation are key features of the Vector Signal Transceiver.

The NI PXIe-5841 combines the characteristics of a vector signal generator and an analyzer, supporting a frequency range of 9 kHz to 6 GHz and an instantaneous bandwidth of 1 GHz. Additionally, the typical tuning time of the RF generator is 175 µS. The RF Analyzer functionality of the device also features a 9 kHz – 6 GHz frequency range and 1 GHz instantaneous bandwidth, including a loopback error vector magnitude up to -48 dB. 

The different variations of the device are available under various part numbers. Part number 786982-01 is the standalone version of the device, while part number 785832-01 is the version of the device paired with the PXIe-5655. Part numbers 788842-01 and 788843-01 are both standalone, but are the generator only and analyzer only respectively. Part number 788844-01 is also only the generator and part number 788845-01 is also only the analyzer, but both of these part numbers are equipped with an enhanced LO synthesizer.

The baseband characteristics of the NI PXIe-5841 include 14-bit ADC resolution, 16-bit DAC resolution, and 1.25 GS/s sample rate for both ADC and DAC operations. On the front panel, the Vector Signal Transceiver has SMA female connectors for RF IN and RF OUT connections. The RF IN connector supports the maximum input voltage of ±10 VDC. The typical power consumption of the NI PXIe-5841 is 80 W.

Physically, the VST is a two-slot PXIe module that measures physical dimensions of 1.6 in. × 5.6 in. × 8.3 in. (4.1 cm × 12.9 cm × 21.1 cm) and weighs in at 28.0 oz (794 g). The operating temperature of the device is 0 °C to 55 °C when used with a chassis that has a slot cooling capacity that is ≥58 W, and 0 °C to 40 °C for any other compatible chassis.
