National Instruments / MicroLEX PXI-VideoSPX-o Digital Video Generator
The National Instruments PXI-VideoSPX-o is a legacy Digital Video Generator designed for use alongside the PXI-VideoSPX-i Digital Video Analyzer. Originally manufactured by MicroLEX, this video generator device was later sold and supported by NI as a legacy product. Within an automated test setup, the PXI-VideoSPX-o acts as a transmitter, taking parallel digital data from the PXI system and serializing/converting it into a video signal that can be sent to a monitor or a device under test. The signal goes from the NI VMS software to the module before the output is sent to the device that is under test. The video standard of the device is DVI-compliant, and the maximum resolution and frame rate are determined by the clock rate of the digital I/O module that is paired with it. The video material is generated as 4:4:4 per DVI specifications.
The front panel of the PXI-VideoSPX-o is equipped with a variety of connectors to ensure seamless connectivity for signal generation. The digital video output is accomplished through a 19-pin HDMI (Type-A) port. The clock in (CLK in) port is an SMB connector, allowing for direction connection for synchronizing video data. The digital I/O interface (labeled DIO / Digital Data & Control) uses a 68-Pin VHDCI connector in order to interface with an NI digital I/O module.
The digital video generator’s front panel also features three LED indicators, providing quick and visual insight into the status of different features of the device. The PWR LED indicates the power status of the generator, while the DUT LED alerts the user to any changes regarding connection to the device under test. The DIO LED displays the status of the digital I/O connection.
Similar to it’s digital video input module counterpart, the lowest pixel clock rate guaranteed by the PXI-VideoSPX-o is 25 MHz. Lower clock frequencies may be possible, but not guaranteed. This standard 3U PXI module fits inside a standalone PXI chassis that has a 3U slot, whether that is a CompactPCI chassis, a 3U PXIe Hybrid Peripheral Slot, or a single slot 3U PXI chassis.
