NI PXIe-6353 Multifunction I/O Module

The National Instruments PXIe-6353 (Part Number: 790594-01) is a high-speed multifunction PXI Express data acquisition board used in many test, measurement and control applications. The instrument comes as a 3U PXI Express module, the CPU being on a card. It has the capabilities of an analog input module, an analog output module, digital I/O ports and a counter/timer. The PXIe-6353 is therefore used in automatic test equipment and laboratory research. The high-speed PCI Express bus architecture is used in aiding the fast transfer of data which is needed in such demanding high-speed applications.

This PXIe-6353 module has analog input channels which can be either 32 single-ended or 16 differential inputs with 16 bits of resolution. The max. sampling rate for one channel is 1.25 Msample/s and for total data throughput (multichannel) is a rate of 1 Msample/s. There are also four analog output channels, which can be independently updated at rates of some 2.86 Ms/s. The digital I/O of this module is tremendous, with 48 bi-directional lines. These digital I/O lines can be formed into a high-speed port (of 32 channels) and 16 isolated programmable function lines, which can be utilized for static I/O or timing signal switching. There are also 4 counters/timers, each with 32-bit capacity. The timing capability of these timers is advanced in that they can produce pulse trains and measure the frequency of quadrature encoders for frequency analysis or event counting.

The PXIe-6353 is utilized in hardware-in-the-loop simulation, prototype validation and automated production testing by engineers. The accuracy of timing and triggering allows for execution of synchronized patterns of measurement and control. The module is controlled through the NI-DAQmx driver software and associated configuration programs, which render the programming and development of the process simple by giving the programmer a common programming experience across the multitude of devices, leading to a efficient integration of the total system and helping to make the time for development of the actual data acquisition tasks minimal.
