NI PXIe-6351 Multifunction I/O Device
The National Instruments PXIe-6351 (Part Number: 781048-01) is a high-density multifunction data acquisition (DAQ) device designed for the PXI Express platform for robust implementation in automated test, measurement, and control applications. This model combines analog input, analog output, digital I/O, and counter/timer into a single PXIe slot, thereby allowing for optimization of system integration and throughput. It incorporates 16 single-ended, or 8 differential, analog input channels that can sample at a total rate of 1.00 MS/s or at a maximum rate of 1.25 MS/s for a single channel, all at a resolution of 16 bits. The device provides for two analog output channels with an update rate of 2.86 MS/s and also provides for 24 software-timed or hardware-timed digital lines and four 32-bit counters for compressed timing and quadrature encoder functions.
This DAQ device is used in different industries, including industrial automation, research and development, and prototype validation. One application for the data acquisition device in use here is that engineers, in the search for efficiency, will use the PXIe-6351 for dynamic signal acquisition and sensor and transducer measurements, waveform generation, and digital protocol simulation. Its architecture employs the high-speed PXI Express bus to take maximum advantage of minimum latency and maximum data transfer rates, which is very important in systems that require rapid deterministic control and synchronizing to other PXI modules. The integration of a large onboard FIFO for the analog and digital functions allows reliable continuous data streaming without losses.
The PXIe-6351 is designed for an adverse environment and has a rugged form factor suited for rack-mounted architectures. The extensive I/O capabilities of the PXIe-6351 make it a suitable realization for using it in constructing sophisticated mixed-signal test benches, production test systems, and complex hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation rigs. The precision of analog measurements, high speed of digital control, and flexibility of counter functionality allow the device to be a base point for the design of scalable and high-performance automated systems in labs or production environments.
