National Instruments PCIe-6350 Multifunction I/O Device
The PCIe-6350 (Part Number: 790588-01) from National Instruments is a high-speed multi-function data acquisition board adapted to use in PCI Express slots on the computer. The device has all of the analog input, digital I/O, and counter/timer functions on one card, which makes this a versatile device for use in many different measurement and automatic data acquisition applications. It is designed for precision research, development, and industrial test applications in systems where the most reliable data is required. The card is used as an independent board and will need auxiliary and compatible equipment, such as the SHC68-68 series cables to adapt to outside signals and sensors and to be able to use them in its functions.
This DAQ device specifically has sixteen single-ended, or eight differential analog inputs and has a 16-bit resolution ADC. The maximum single channel sampling rate is 1.25 MS/s, and the multichannel rate is 1 MS/s which can be used for signals moving rapidly. The analog input section provides seven ranges selectable in software from ±0.1 volts to ±10 volts which allows the correct scaling of the signals coming from the inputs either in low or high voltages. The PCIe-6350 has 24 lines of I/O to be used in a digital control or sensing function. These lines can be used either as static I/O or can be triaged as programmable function interface (PFI) terminals if there is a need to route timing and triggering signals to them. The Multifunction I/O Device has four independent 32-bit counters/timers where advanced operations such as those required by encoder interface, pulse generation, and frequency measurements can be accomplished.
Using the bandwidth of the PCI Express bus, the PCIe-6350 is adapted for many applications where automated test equipment (ATE), some laboratory experiment or experimentation for instrument control systems is needed. The device is well suited for prototyping, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation, and condition monitoring applications. The device includes highly sophisticated analog and digital triggering capabilities, including an independent analog trigger input line, which will act to synchronize the acquisition function with any signal from the outside which is event driven. It has all of the features that include a wide 4,095 sample AI FIFO and DMA data transfer built in, which gives it high streaming capability to the host computer for those high throughput, complicated application programs where a lost sample could cause a great deal of wasted time in conducting the program.
