National Instruments PCIe-6342 Multifunction I/O Device
The PCIe-6342 (Part Number: 790587-01) from NI is a high-speed multifunction data acquisition (DAQ) board installed on the PCI Express bus. It combines a number of building blocks such as analog input, digital I/O, and counter/timer functions on a single board, giving great flexibility to user measurement and automation systems. It has been designed to operate reliably as a part of a test, measurement and control system, taking advantage of the large bandwidth of the PCIe interface to allow for very fast data transfer with low latency.
The PCIe-6342 has thirty-two single-ended or sixteen differential analog input channels at a resolution of 16 bits and at a maximum sampling rate of 500 kS/s. The analog input section has a number of voltage ranges, and the precision and noise performance of the A-D converters allow for accurate signal acquisition. Digital I/O circuits comprise forty-eight lines, which may be subdivided into 6 ports, which may be programmed as input or output points as required. There are many applications for these lines, such as general timing and static control applications. There are a number of programmable function interface (PFI) pins to accept custom timing signals. The board has, in addition, 4 general-purpose 32-bit counters/timers, which allows it to cover a variety of functions. Event counting, pulse generation, frequency measurement, and quadrature encoder interfacing are all functions necessary for motion control and sensor applications.
The PCIe-6342 is employed in research and development, industrial automation and manufacturing test systems. The mix of analog and digital I/O together with flexible counters renders this board well adapted to what may be termed complex tasks. The sort of tasks needed in prototype validation, manufacturing tests, and control of automated machinery. The software from NI environments is compatible with this device and assists in rapid system development and implementation. The fact that a complete set of I/O functions is provided on a single PCIe card means that the PCIe-6342 presents a compact solution for engineers designing complex DAQ and control systems which require reliability of operation and accurate measurements in demanding environments.
