The National Instruments PCIe-6340 (Part Number: 790586-01) is a high-speed multi-function data acquisition board designed for measurement and control applications. The device provides on one PCI Express card the combination of analog input, digital input/output, and counter/timer functions, providing excellent throughput for demanding automated testing, validation, and industrial automation systems. The PCIe-6340 is typically used in research and development labs, production test stands, and equipment monitoring for physical tasks requiring accurate acquisition of sensor data, high-speed digital protocol simulation, and interfacing to motion control systems.
The core of the PCIe-6340 provides 16 single-ended or 8 differential analog input channels with the 16-bit resolution analog-to-digital converter (ADC) and has individual readings of multiple channels with aggregate sampling rates of up to 500 kS/s across multiple channels. This permits simultaneous measurements from different sensors with selectable input ranges. The board also has 24 digital input/output lines, which can be programmed individually as to whether they are input lines or output lines. The input/output lines provide for static digital control and high-speed waveform generation or data acquisition lines. A subset of these lines is used as a Programmable Function Interface (PFI) to route required or critical timing signals. The device provides four independent 32-bit counters/timers for high-performance timing and complex position tasks. The counters/timers provide functionality for the performance of event counting, pulse width measurement, quadrature encoder interface, and frequency generation tasks, which make them well suited for connecting to encoders for operation in motion control type systems or generating PWM signals with great accuracy.
Connectivity is provided through a 68-pin VHDCI connector, which provides excellent connectivity for reliable cabling of signals. It is equally well suited for internal type operation in Measurement Category I environments. The PCIe-6340 may be operated reliably within the normal industrial temperature range. The PCI Express bus architecture has low latency and is optimized for operation under the multicore processor design of today’s processors, ensuring a powerful and diverse solution for the construction of complex data acquisition systems and control systems.
