National Instruments 784179-01 Device for PXI Remote Control 

National Instruments part number 784179-01 is an identifying part number for the PCIe-8398 a device for PXI Remote Control. The NI 784179-01 is an x16 Gen3, 13.6 GB/s host interface device for PXI remote control. It is used to control any compatible chassis through a PCIe x16 Gen3 link. This device is installed into an available x16 PCI Express slot in a rackmount or desktop PC. Gen3 cables connect the PCIe-8398 to a PXIe-8399 or PXIe-8398 remote control module, allowing for up to 3 meters of PCI Express communication. This controller enables control of multiple CompactPCI Express or PXI Express chassis. 

The NI 784179-01 includes internal temperature monitoring, shutting down the board and turning the front panel LED solid red if temperatures exceed the set limit. This model complies with PCI Express Specs Rev 3.0 and requires one PCI Express x16 slot for installation. It allows users to separate their automation or measurement system from a host PC. It has 16 lanes and supports an MXI-Express x8 cable. This device can be installed in a PC with a PXIe-8398 to create a Gen-3 x16 system. 

Multiple NI 784179-01 modules can also be used to build larger systems. If the PC has no available PCI Express slots, users can daisy chain another chassis using a PXIe-8399. This device measures 6.89 cm by 167.65 cm (2.71 in. by 6.60 in.) and has a maximum cable length of 3 meters. It requires one PCI Express x16 slot and is fully compatible with PCI Express Specification, Revision 3.0. The typical weight of the device is 0.147 kg (0.325 lb).
