National Instruments PCI-CAN/XS2 CAN Interface Device

The PCI-CAN/XS2 is a software-selectable CAN Interface Device developed by National Instruments. The part number for the PCI-CAN/XS2 CAN Interface Device is 778782-02. The PCI-CAN/XS2 features different types of transceivers, including high speed and low-speed transceivers. This feature makes the PCI-CAN/XS2 compatible with both high and low speed CAN devices. The PCI-CAN/XS2 can also be interfaced with single-wire CAN devices. The Philips SJA1000 CAN Controller on this model offers advanced functionality. It supports different filtering modes including self-reception and listen-only. This device also features triggering and synchronization functions, which allow the model to synchronize easily with different PCI devices.

The PCI-CAN/XS2 CAN Interface Device features dual ports. The connectors are 9-pin male D-SUB connectors. One connector is installed on each channel. The PCI-CAN/XS2 is equipped with three transceivers: TJA1041, TJA1054A, and AU5790. The required transceiver is selected through software. The PCI-CAN/XS2 also offers the option of using an external transceiver. The software can bypass installed transceivers and select an external mode (EXT). The maximum transfer rate of this model is 1000 kb/sec. The typical current is up to 900 mA. The I/O channel of the device operates at +5 VDC.

The PCI-CAN/XS2 is compatible with many arbitration IDs, such as standard and extended CAN IDs. The PCI-CAN/XS2 CAN Interface Device incorporates an Intel 80386EX microprocessor, which is used to transfer time CAN frames. An optical isolation of 500 V is also provided in this model. Supported operating systems for the PCI-CAN/XS2 are Windows and LabVIEW RT. The PCI-CAN/XS2 comes with NI-CAN driver software and is compatible with LabWindows, C, C++, and Visual Basic.
