National Instruments PCI-8531 CANopen Interface Device
The PCI-8531 (Part number: 781060-01) is a CANopen Interface Device developed by National Instruments. The PCI-8531 is used to create an interface between devices for CANopen applications. CANopen is an advanced communication protocol built on the CAN physical layer. CANopen is mainly designed for machine control networks which are motion oriented. This CANopen Interface Device can transmit or receive PDOs and SDOs.
The PCI-8531 CANopen Interface Device is compatible with the PCI bus. The PCI-8531 provides an interface between PC computers and control CANopen devices. The transceiver used in the PCI-8531 is the NXP PCA82C251. The baud rate of the PCI-8531 is in a range of 10 kbps ~ 1 Mbps. This device has protection against overvoltage and can withstand 60 VDC or 500 Vrms without getting damaged. This protection has been certified with a 5 sec dielectric test. This device also features isolation between channels for better protection. The PCI-8531 Interface Device has two LEDs. LED 1 shows the status of the hardware and LED 2 indicates error information. The NI PCI-8531 is equipped with a 9-pin male D-SUB connector for the interface.
