Expert Insights for the NI-9862
"The NI-9862 is a high-speed CAN interface that uses the NI-XNET driver. It is perfect for real-time, high-speed CAN projects that need rapid bus monitoring and automated controlling. This device can change and take measurements at the same time, making it a great choice for low-level FPGA programming. This device is compatible with either CompactDAQ and CompactRIO systems, but FPGA programming is only available with CompactRIO chassis."

National Instruments NI-9862 C Series CAN Interface Module
The NI-9862 (Part Number: 781639-01) is a high-speed Controller Area Network (CAN) Flexible Data-rate (FD) interface that was created by National Instruments. It is mainly intended for applications that need to manipulate several CAN frames and signals quickly and in real-time. It performs exceptionally well in situations involving automated control, bus monitoring, quick control prototyping, and hardware-in-the-loop simulation. The NI-XNET driver is compatible with this interface, making it easy to integrate into a variety of applications.
The NI-9862 features a fully functional CAN port that is isolated from other system modules. It completely complies with the CAN 2.0B standard and supports both 11-bit and 29-bit identifiers thanks to its Bosch DCAN CAN controller. The ISO 11898 standard is followed by its NXP TJA1041AT High-Speed CAN transceiver, which can handle baud rates of up to 1 Mbps.
The NI-9862's physical attributes include its weight of about 144 g (5.0 oz), which makes it portable and lightweight. With a maximum power usage of 1 W in active mode and a thermal dissipation of 1.25 W at 70 °C, it has very low power requirements.
The voltage range for port-to-COM connections is -27 V DC to +40 V DC, and for the external power supply (Vsup), it is +9 V DC to +30 V DC. Safety voltages are rigorously adhered to. With port-to-earth ground continuous isolation of 60 V DC and withstand isolation of 1,000 V RMS, as confirmed by a 5-second dielectric withstand test, isolation features guarantee safety and dependability.
Because of its versatility, the NI-9862 supports a wide range of applications. With the same NI CompactDAQ hardware platform, users can do additional data acquisition measurements in parallel while manipulating CAN frames and signals at high speed. In the same NI CompactRIO chassis, it also makes embedded monitoring and low-level FPGA control possible.
