The PITSCO Robotics Kit (Part Number 783892-01) is an advanced educational robotics system that provides a means for students to bridge the gap between the theoretical concepts of engineering and automation applications in the real world. It has been designed to accommodate smoothly with the NI myRIO Student Embedded Device and the NI Engineering Laboratory Virtual Instrumentation Suite (NI ELVIS). This kit can be used by students to explore robotics, mechatronics, and control systems through the programming of LabVIEW software tools. This kit has proved to be an extremely effective educational device in the fields of STEM education, universities and laboratories, and robotics instructional environments in which hands-on environments are of extreme importance.
The PITSCO Robotics Kit contains more than 300 mechanical and electronic components, providing all the essential elements for the design, construction, and operational programming of robotic systems. The parts include structural elements such as channels, brackets, and connectors; drive and motion elements such as gears, wheels, and hubs;sensors and actuators; and a motor interface board that links the mechanical assemblies to the control hardware. There is also included a 10-cell NiMH battery pack, a charger and a complete and detailed build guide, which guides the user through the construction of various projects such as rovers, articulated arms, and balance robots.
In educational environments, the PITSCO Robotics Kit is used to teach robot design, robotics, automation, control theory, and embedded systems. The students can affix NI myRIO or NI ELVIS modules to the robot frame to connect any of the available motors and sensors and can use LabVIEW for the development of control logic (for example Algorithms, Control Logic), and local testing and debugging of the units. This interaction helps achieve understanding of feedback control, integration of sensors, kinematics and system dynamics, which are the areas involved in current robotics and automation in high-technology situations.
