National Instruments Automated Measurements Board for NI ELVIS III
The NI ELVIS III Automated Measurements Board (Part Number: 787000-01) is a teaching tool that helps people learn about measurement and instrumentation by using sensors and exploring how signals work. Because this board is designed to work seamlessly with the NI ELVIS III workstation, students and researchers can study the basic electrical properties of voltage, current, and resistance while incorporating measurement of physical conditions of sensor devices such as strain, temperature, light, pressure, and vibration.
The NI ELVIS III Automated Measurements Board is broken down into major sections, each designed to promote the practical applications of measurement principles and analog and digital measurement systems. The signal chain sections of the board include configurable excitation circuits, amplifiers, filters, and analog to digital conversion paths that allow users to study the processes of amplification, filtering, and signal conditioning. The electrical fundamentals area contains programmable sources and measurement circuits for performing precise measurement of voltage, current, and resistance of the different circuits being tested.
Included with this interface are integrated amplifier circuits including unity gain, inverting, non-inverting, and instrumentation amplifiers so that the gain and polarity of the signals can be investigated. Six independent filter circuits studied, utilizing both passive and active components, can demonstrate and investigate the frequency response of specific filter circuits such as low-pass and high-pass designs. The filter circuits are built, analyzed, and modeled with programmable integrated circuits. An on-board ADC module supplies examples for performing demonstrations in the areas of digital conversion principles as well as communicating with digital communication protocols. The sensor connectability in this area is for resistive, thermocouple, piezoelectric, and phototransistor sensors, which can help investigate, in real-time, the operational properties of the sensors connected as well as the principles of transduction.
To assist in prototype development, the prototyping area contains a solderless breadboard and the simple access to the I/O connections for circuit exploration. The Pmod expansion interface provides additional peripheral growth via the use of the SPI, I²C, and UART communication standards. The integration of LEDs in this board helps to identify the active section of the circuit for visual tracking of experiments. With the assistance of the software programs that will work with this hardware such as NI’s LabVIEW RT and LabVIEW FPGA, the Automation Measurements Board for NI ELVIS III enables experimentation and education in the areas of automated measurement and sensor integration techniques used in engineering education and instrumentation applications.
National Instruments (NI) has announced a "Last Time Buy Date" of April 29, 2026 for this Automated Measurements Board, but it will remain available in perpetuity with Apex Waves!
