Emona Communications Board for NI ELVIS III

The Emona Communication Board (Part Number: 786515-01) is a practical tool designed for the NI ELVIS III platform, helping students learn about modern analog and digital telecommunications through hands-on experiments. This board enables students to build and experiment with physical communication systems that in many cases are dealt with only in theoretical terms in textbooks and provides hands-on experience with phenomena that are usually described in abstracts. By using an overall block diagram, the system embodies the universal language of telecommunications, allowing students to effectively interconnect functional units such as multipliers, adders, filters and oscillators by means of simple patch cords.

The product includes a wide selection of special purpose functional blocks that are required for the modeling of communication systems. Top items are a Master Signals Module supplying coherent 100 kHz carrier and baseband signals, several multipliers for modulation purposes, Voltage Controlled Oscillators (VCO), and special filters such as Root-Raised-Cosine (RRC) and tunable low-pass filters. Other items are practical interfaces, including a speech module with a MEMS microphone for real audio input, a Headphone Amplifier for listening to demodulated signals, as well as direct Analog and Digital I/O connections to the NI ELVIS III for use with the built-in instruments and LabVIEW software. The front panel of the board is intuitively laid out, with sockets in different colors indicating their type (round for analog, square for digital) for easy, error free patching.
