Emona Signals and Systems Board for NI ELVIS
Emona's Signals and Systems Board (SIGEx-311) for NI ELVIS (Part Number: 781725-01) combines modular analog and discrete time hardware with NI ELVIS II/II+ and LabVIEW to provide undergraduates with active signal processing experiments. Students will build real circuits from functional blocks (integrators, sample-and-hold circuits, unit delays, adders and filter elements) and view them live. Abstractions such as the Laplace and z-transforms are thus actually visible as hardware.
The product package includes the SIGEx add-on board, the SIGEx soft front panel for LabVIEW integration, and a 16 experiment lab manual covering special signals, linear and non-linear systems, convolution, correlation, Fourier analysis, poles and zeros, sampling and aliasing, fundamentals of AD conversion, FIR and IIR filter design and real discrete-time applications. On-screen controls and ties to NI ELVIS instruments (clock and function generator and dual ARB outputs) permit parameter tuning, spectrum and time-domain displays and tailored instrumentation by experiment.
Engineered for educational and rapid prototyping purposes, the SIGEx-311 (Emona Signals and Systems board) gives emphasis to active learning. Theory to practice: students patch blocks together, debug systems implemented, and relate theory to measured response. The open-ended nature of the product is such that many courses and text mappings can be adapted to the experiments so that teachers may alter the philosophy of the experiments to suit the courses they teach. The normal use of this product would be for laboratory demonstrations of sample theory and aliasing, real filter implementation, pole-zero visualization, spectrum analysis and matched filtering. The product becomes a basis for a compact educational platform, making knowledge of mathematical theory fuse with knowledge of physical signal behavior. Product use of NI ELVIS hardware and LabVIEW for measurement and control systems indicates the methodology used.
Staff benefits arise from the dedicated mapping of the experiment to the course text, the availability of pre-designed laboratories and the ability to design new experiments; researchers are able to prototype signal-processing chains before making them for hardware production. The Emona Signals and Systems Board is oriented toward experiential learning in signals and systems, digital signal processing, communications and control and complements the course's theoretical lectures with measurable, repeatable laboratory outcomes.
National Instruments has announced a "Last TIme Buy Date" of 04/29/2026 for the Emona Signals and Systems Board, but it will remain available in perpetuity with Apex Waves for both purchase and repair services!
