The National Instruments FlexRIO Adapter Module Development Kit (MDK) for Modular I/O (Part Numbers: 787353-01, 780711-01) is a comprehensive hardware and software package designed for engineers who are developing, prototyping and deploying custom adapter modules for the NI FlexRIO FPGA modules and Controllers for FlexRIO such as the NI PXI-795xR, PXIe-796xR, PXIe-797xR, and NI-793xR. The FlexRIO Adapter Module Development Kit provides all of the hardware and software designed for high-speed data acquisition, signal processing and embedded control applications needed to expand the reconfigurable FPGA technology of FlexRIO with custom I/O hardware intended specifically for the project.
The MDK includes detailed design files, printed circuit board layouts, connector pinout definitions, instrument enclosure drawings, and LabVIEW FPGA integration examples for the complete control of both the hardware design automation as well as the firmware design automation. This supports the adapter modules containing analog to digital converters, digital to analog converters, LVDS and LVTTL interfaces, and custom serial protocols such as RS-485, IEEE-1394, etc. The adapter modules connect directly to the FPGA, thus creating very low latency, high bandwidth signal interfaces designed for demanding test, measurement and automation systems.
The FlexRIO Adapter Module Development Kit includes component level IP integration (CLIP). This permits communication at the hardware level between the user designed circuitry and the LabVIEW FPGA VIs. This communication permits seamless data transfer and high-quality timing control enabling their utilization for real-time simulation, RADAR prototyping, communications research and control systems. The MDK provides design direction for power distribution, clocking methodology, grounding strategies, and signal integrity, ensuring consistent design performance and electrical compliance.
