National Instruments PCIe-8371 Device for PXI Remote Control
National Instruments' PCIe-8371 (Part Numbers: 779723-01) is an MXI-Express remote controller that can be used to remotely operate systems or devices connected over PCI from a PC having a PCI Express slot. It offers an x4 PCI Express interface for PXI system control via a copper cable to the PXIe-8370 remote control module. Through transparent operation to software programs and drivers, this link makes it easier for computers and servers to control linked devices without the need for extra programming.
Physically, the PCIe-8371 fits into x4, x8, and x161 PCI Express slots with a form factor of x4 PCI Express. Its board is 10.7 by 17.5 cm (4.4 by 6.9 in.) in size, and installation only requires one PCI Express x4 slot. A maximum of 7 m of cable can be supported. The PCIe-8371 complies completely with the PCI Express Specification, thus it can be seamlessly integrated with systems that are compliant.
According to the working environment standards, the device can function noncondensingly in an ambient temperature range of 0 to 40 °C and a relative humidity range of 10 to 90%. It is possible to store food at temperatures between -20 and 70 °C and noncondensing relative humidity levels between 5 and 95%. Applications for the PCIe‑8371 include industrial automation, where it enables remote control of PXI modules as if they were directly installed PCI devices in the computer.
In environments where space limits or remote operation are important issues, this feature simplifies the processes involved in system control and monitoring. In addition, the PCIe-8371/PXI system is useful in lab environments in that it allows PXI equipment to be connected to host computers at extended distances while retaining fast data transmission speeds. In a variety of scientific research contexts, this makes data collection, analysis, and control more efficient.
