National Instruments PXI-6534 PXI Digital I/O Module

The National Instruments PXI-6534 (Part number: 778288-01) is a fast, 32-bit, parallel computerized I/O interface, perfect for interfacing to 5V TTL/CMOS devices. It performs pattern I/O and fast data transfer utilizing an extensive variety of handshaking conventions at speeds up to 80 MB per second. The NI PXI-6534 Digital I/O Module conveys computerized I/O combined with huge locally available memory. It highlights client characterized power-up states, start and stop triggering, pattern matching, and change detection. The user can operate the 32 lines as exclusively configurable single-line I/O or as 8, 16, or 32-bit ports for pattern I/O and handshaking. The device is equipped with 32 channels with a maximum rate of 20 MHz. The PXI-6534 has the dimensions 6.4 x 3.9 in.

The device operates using the NI-DAQ driver software, which is made available with the product and which is compatible with any NI application software or application development environment (ADE) of your choice. ADEs such as LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, and Measurement Studio—any of the three are highly recommended as they reduce the time required to acquire data or develop the application. The device can be automatically configured using the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool.

On the PXI-6534, the 32 digital I/O lines are separated into four 8-bit ports. For pattern I/O or handshaking, the ports can be gathered into two 8-bit or 16-bit groups or a single 32-bit group. When they are configured for output, every data line can sink or source up to 24 mA when set as logic low or high, respectively. When they are configured as inputs, the PXI-6534 data lines are diode-terminated to dampen the input signals at TTL levels. When performing static or unstrobed I/O, the user can exclusively configure each of the 32 I/O lines as input or output. With pattern I/O, the user can input or output patterns under the timing control of a clock signal. When utilizing handshaking I/O to interface the NI PXI-6534 digital I/O module to a peripheral gadget, data is transferred when both the NI PXI-6534 and the peripheral are prepared. The device has a 68-pin male SCSI-II I/O connector type.

The PXI-6534 is no longer available directly from the manufacturer National Instruments, but the PXI Digital I/O module will remain available in perpetuity with Apex Waves!
