National Instruments PXI-6509 PXI Digital I/O Module

The PXI-6509 (Part Number: 778858-01) The Digital I/O Module by National Instruments has 96 digital I/O lines, single-ended signaling, a 0 V to 5 V output voltage range, a digital input voltage range of -0.5 V to 5.5 V, and 5 V digital I/O logic levels. Each of the 96 DIO lines can be utilized as a static digital input (DI) or digital output (DO) line. A few of the digital output applications for the PXI-6509 include driving external models and transporting TTL signals. Several of the digital input applications for the NI PXI-6509 are sensing external models and receiving TTL signals.  

The PXI-6509 Digital I/O Module comes equipped with a watchdog timer, digital filtering, change detection, and various other features. Digital filtering can be implemented to eradicate errors in input information. If this feature is used with change detection, then digital filtering can additionally decrease the amount of modifications to assess and process. Digital filtering is permitted on however many input lines are required for the user’s application. The timing interval range for these lines is from 400 ns to 200 ms. When utilizing the change detection feature, it is important to recognize that a high number of change detections can decrease the system’s performance levels. Therefore, digital filtering can be utilized to reduce the noisy input lines. The NI device is equipped with a 100-pin female 0.050 series SCSI I/O connector.

The PXI 6509 is run using the NI-DAQmx driver software, which is compatible with software packages like LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, or Measurement Studio. The device hardware is configured using MAX.

The NI PXI-6509 Digital I/O Module can only be operated with shielded cables and accessories. These include an SCB-100 connector block, CB-50 connector block, and CB-50LP connector block. These cables and accessories guarantee the PXI-6509 will comply with the EMC standards specified in the PXI-6509 user manual. The device has a power consumption value of 375 mA typical at +3.3 VDC and 250 mA typical at +5 VDC. A disk drive power connection can be installed in order to boost the power supply on the +5 V terminal if desired.
