The National Instruments cDAQ-SL8202 (Part number: 868172-01) is a highly integrated hardware solution for advanced measurements of strain and load. The cDAQ-SL8202 consists of an 8-slot cDAQ-9189 Ethernet chassis and NI-9237 C series strain/bridge input modules (8-channel data acquisition system). The cDAQ-9189 is also a component that is important in design efforts that will allow distributed type measurements (because it follows the Ethernet standard, this hardware allows synchronization precision within 40 nanoseconds between all measurements and allows measurements to be taken a great distance from the control interface).
This is a data acquisition package that is widely used for critical health monitoring of structures such as bridges, buildings, and large mechanical systems. The cDAQ-SL8202 CompactDAQ Strain and Load Measurement system is ideal for making detailed load tests on components and also for checking loads during the testing for stress that is applied to components that will receive service value loads. Each of the two NI-9237 modules has four channels operating in parallel at 50 kS/s sampling rates with 24-bit resolution (indicating load range and the limited range of sensors; configurations include bridges in either quarter bridge, half bridge or full bridge configuration). The system has programmable excitation of 10 V for the strain gauges and is adapted for earth isolation from channel to channel for reliable operation in electrically noisy environments. The mounted terminal blocks provided with the NI-9923 devices simplify and secure sensor connections and guarantee all essential signal transitions.
Software capabilities for this system allow for simplified testing convenience and operations. This is where the FlexLogger enabling approach for making all connections to set the project, which includes a no-code effort for developing bending moment and strain gauge configurations, exists. Similarly, the LabVIEW program is available for developing your own completely automated testing sequences. Furthermore, it is possible to obtain an API for custom applications in Python, C/C++ and other programming languages, enabling virtually complete flexibility in integration into any existing testing particulars and methods for data analysis.
