NI cFP-CTR-500 Sinking Counter Module for Compact Fieldpoint
The cFP-CTR-500 (part number: 777318-500) is a sinking counter module for the Compact FieldPoint. Each input channel has one info terminal, VIN. Each channel additionally has VSUP and COM terminals that can supply power to field devices. The user can associate the eight count-input channels and four gate-input channels with devices that have sourcing outputs. The cFP-CTR-500 has sinking inputs, which implies that the VIN terminal gives a way to common. The NI cFP-CTR-500 channels are optically isolated from whatever is left of the FieldPoint bank and have current-limiting circuitry. All the channels are referenced to the C and COM terminals. At the point when the voltage crosses over VIN and COM is 10 V or more noteworthy, current moves through VIN and turns on the opto-isolator, entering an ON state for the channel. At the point when the voltage crosses over VIN and COM is 6 V or lower, current does not move through VIN, and the channel is in the OFF state. The user should guarantee that the sourcing-output devices have OFF-state leaking currents of under 0.2 mA so they do not create false ON-state readings. The cFP-CTR-500 has a power requirement of 800 mW from the network module.
The eight counters on the cFP-CTR-500 Counter Module all have 16-bit resolution. There are both sinking inputs and sourcing outputs on the module, which are compatible with 12 and 24 VDC models. The device has an input range of 10 to 30 VDC. In addition, the NI cFP-CTR-500 has internally cascadable counters. The module also has the useful feature of being hot swappable.
The cFP-CTR-500 weighs 4.0 oz and has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of -40 to 60°C and -55 to 85°C, respectively; a non-condensing relative humidity range of 10 to 90% RH; and random and sinusoidal operating vibrations of 5 grms and 5 g, respectively—all at a frequency range of 10 to 500 Hz. Additionally, the NI device is designed to comply with the following electrical safety standards: IEC 61010-1, EN-61010-1, UL 61010-1, and CSA 61010-1.
The cFP-CTR-500 is no longer available from National Instruments (NI), but the counter module will remain available with Apex Waves in perpetuity for purchase or repairs.

National Instruments cFP-CTR-500 Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Can I configure the cFP-CTR-500 to pulse or toggle states?
Answer: Yes, you can configure each of the four counter outputs to either pulse or toggle states when you reach the terminal count for a counter input.
Question: Can the outputs on the cFP-CTR-500 be used as general-purpose digital outputs?
Answer: Yes, the outputs on the Sinking Counter Module can be used as general-purpose digital outputs. The module works with 10 to 30 VDC sourcing devices and provides sourcing outputs. A sourcing device connects and disconnects a voltage to and from the counter module.
Question: Is a common ground plane used for the digital input channels on the cFP-CTR-500?
Answer: Yes, the Sinking Counter Module uses a common ground plane for all the digital input channels.
Question: Can you combine counter channels to provide cascaded counters on the cFP-CTR-500?
Answer: Yes, for higher resolution counting, you can combine counter channels to provide cascaded counters of up to 128 bits.
Question: Are you able to set a terminal count on the cFP-CTR-500?
Answer: Yes, for each counter, you can set a terminal count so the counter automatically rolls over or resets.
