National Instruments cFP-CB-3 Connector Block for Compact Fieldpoint
The cFP-CB-3 Integrated Isothermal Connector Block (part number 778618-03) is designed for general-purpose and hazardous-voltage operation with Compact FieldPoint I/O modules. It is specifically intended for use with the cFP-TC-120 module and CFP-BP-x compact FieldPoint backplanes. The cFP-CB-3 utilizes isothermal development to limit thermal gradients on the input/output V and C terminals. This expands the precision of the thermistor that is utilized for cold-junction compensation. The NI cFP-CB-3 enables users to secure wiring setups for shock and vibration applications.
The NI cFP-CB-3 connector block has an isolation barrier between the I/O channels and the module communication bus. There is no disconnection between channels except if generally noted. Thermocouple output signals are for the most part in the millivolt range and have a low voltage temperature affectability. This means that the user should carefully consider the type of mistake that can affect the exactness of their estimations. The most common errors in estimations with thermocouples are CJC, pickup and stage move mistakes, noise mistakes, and thermocouple mistakes. The device is equipped with up to 36 terminals, which are wired using a 16-26 AWG copper conductor wire with 6 mm (0.24 in.) of insulation stripped from the end. Its V and C terminals have a maximum current rating of 4 A, while the other terminals have a 2 A rating.
The NI cFP-CB-3 weighs 7.1 oz and can be used with a cable up to 8 mm in diameter. It has recommended operating and storage temperature ranges of -40°C to 70°C and -55°C to 85°C, respectively.

National Instruments cFP-CB-3 Frequently Asked Questions
Question: Can I connect the cFP-CB-3 through a 30- or 40-foot cable to a backplane?
Answer: The isothermal connector block should not be connected to a 30-foot or longer cable. It will cause poor data readings. It is best to read the signals, amplify them, and then write back to your backplane.
Question: What is the difference between the NI cFP-CB-1 and the NI cFP-CB-3? Can I mix the two?
Answer: The cFP-CB-1 is a general interface block, while the cFP-CB-3 has thermal isolation properties.
Question: Is the cFP-CB-3 compatible with the TC-120 thermocouple block?
Answer: Yes, the Isothermal Connector Block is compatible with the TC-120 thermocouple block.
Question: Where do you mount the NI cFP-CB-3?
Answer: The connector block mounts to the backplane between the I/O modules.
Question: Are there slots for wire ties on the cFP-CB-3?
Answer: Yes, the connector block includes built-in slots for wire ties and strain relief.
