The 778511-01 can be used in place of a variety of instruments, including function generators, stand-alone PID controllers, and arbitrary waveform generators that are low-speed. Users may build complicated waveforms as well as standard waveforms like square, sine, or sawtooth by controlling each data point for each channel. As a PCI-based device, the 778511-01 can be effortlessly plugged into and deployed in any PCI bus-compatible computer. 

Conversely, the PXI-based version can only be utilized with a compatible PXI chassis. This Analog Output Device offers a cost-effective alternative to multiple instruments, including PID controllers and function generators. It also supports the creation and acquisition of digital waveforms. Upon startup, all PFI and DIO lines of the 778511-01 are configured as high-impedance inputs, with each line featuring a weak pull-up resistor. The NI-DAQmx driver software, which is compatible with software packages and application development environments including Measurement Studio, LabVIEW, or LabWindows- powers the 778511-01. Configuration can be done using the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool.
