Keysight M8050A High-Performance BERT 

The Keysight M8050A is a modular Bit Error Ratio Tester (BERT) that supports high-speed digital designs up to 120 GBd. It is designed to characterize receivers in next-generation data center networks and server interfaces. The M8050A includes pattern generators, error detectors, and clock modules for accurate jitter modulation. Its capabilities include next-generation standards such as 800G/1.6T Ethernet, PCIe Gen7, and USB4 for optimal signal integrity.

This module supports protocol-specific testing capabilities, including Forward Error Correction (FEC), USB testing, and PCIe testing. The module includes advanced error analysis and measurement. The error analyzer operates up to 64.4 GBd with integrated Clock Data Recovery (CDR) and source-synchronous mode to handle skew and residual jitter between clock and data. The system supports real-time oscilloscope-based error analysis using the Infiniium UXR-Series oscilloscopes. The module performs tests, including Bit Error Rate (BER), Symbol Error Rate (SER), Jitter Tolerance, and error distribution analysis.

The M8050A requires the Keysight M8070B system software for controlling all parameters and offers a graphical user interface (GUI) and remote control via SCPI. The system’s operating temperature is 5 °C to 40 °C (when configured with the M8009A-062 clock module). The system is controlled with PCIe, USB, or Thunderbolt.

The Pattern Generator Module is available as a 1-channel (2-slot) or 2-channel (3-slot). It operates from 2.000 to 120 GBd and supports the following data formats: NRZ, PAM4, PAM3, PAM6 (up to 96 GBd), and PAM8 (up to 80 GBd). Transition time is typically 4 ps at 120 GBd (with the M8059A remote head) or 4.5 ps at 120 GBd (with the M8069A remote head).

The clock module is a 1-slot AXIe. The internal synthesizer provides a channel clock output ranging from 4.0 to 60 GHz. Jitter emulation includes low-frequency jitter, high-frequency jitter, and random and bounded uncorrelated jitter.
