The economical solution accommodates up to 19 plug-in modules such as low-frequency multiplexers, RF/microwave switches up to 20 GHz, digital I/O, D/A converters, and counter/totalizer modules for flexible system configuration. A 6½-digit internal DMM option enhances measurement capability without consuming module slots, with 11 types of inputs supported like DC/AC voltage, temperature (thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors), 2-/4-wire resistance, frequency, and current.
The 34980A handles as many as 560 2-wire multiplexer channels or 1024 matrix crosspoints in a single mainframe, with expandability for such applications as battery testing, environmental testing, product characterization, and thermal profiling. Low-frequency modules include armature and reed relays with up to ±300 V voltage ratings and up to 1000 channels per second switching rates. RF/microwave modules provide insertion losses as low as 0.42 dB, frequencies up to 20 GHz, and SPDT switching or attenuator control configurations. System control modules are equipped with Digital I/O channels that have 64 bits of resolution as well as isolated analog outputs and programmable clock signals.
The 34980A boasts a simple interface, using standard 50- or 78-pin DSUB cables and accessories. LabVIEW, IVI, and SCPI are some of the software environments compatible with the device.
