ADLINK PXI-8164 4-Axis Servo and Stepper Motion Controller
The PXI-8164 is an advanced PXI 4-axis servo and stepper motion controller with high-speed triggering that is designed and manufactured by ADLINK Technology. It features a 32-bit PXI bus compliant with revision 2.2 operating at 33 MHz for ensuring high data throughput and stable system communication during multi-axis motion operations. The PXI-8164 provides pulse output rates up to 6.55 MHz and supports multiple pulse modes including OUT/DIR, CW/CCW and AB-phase outputs. It delivers accurate motion profiles with programmable acceleration and deceleration times using trapezoidal or S-curve velocity profiles. The controller allows two to four axes of linear interpolation, two axes of circular interpolation and multi-axis continuous interpolation. The motion controller includes position and speed override functions that enable real-time motion adjustments without halting operations.
Equipped with a 28-bit up or down counter, the PXI-8164 controller provides precise feedback control using incremental encoders. It supports an encoder input frequency of 6.55 MHz under 4x AB phase with one-meter cables. Each axis features individual counters and comparators that enhance positional accuracy and ensure reliable synchronization across motion channels. The positioning range extends from −134,217,728 to +134,217,727 pulses. The servo and stepper motion controller support comprehensive I/O functionality for motion interface control. Each axis includes position latch inputs, position compare outputs, incremental encoder inputs and mechanical limit switch inputs. Its dedicated servomotor control pins such as INP, ALM, ERC, RDY and SVON provide direct interface with servo drives and motion feedback devices. All digital inputs and outputs are optically isolated up to 2500 VRMS to ensure reliable operation in electrically noisy environments.
The controller also supports simultaneous start and stop signals for synchronized multi-axis operations and manual pulse generator inputs for manual positioning applications. Its software integration compatibility is with Windows 8, 7 and XP. It supports programming environments such as VB, VC++, BCB, Delphi, and VB.NET. This device is fully supported by ADLINK’s MotionCreatorPro software, which offers configuration, debugging and motion profiling capabilities. Accessories for the PXI-8164 include a range of DIN-rail-mounted terminal boards and 100-pin SCSI-II interface cables for connection to servo amplifiers and external motion hardware. The servo and stepper motion controller supports up to twelve cards in a single system for enabling scalable and synchronized motion control across multiple axes.
