ADLINK PXI-3980 Embedded PXI Controller
The ADLINK PXI-3980 is an embedded computer that is a 3U PXI system controller built on top of the Intel Core i7-2715QE quad-core processor. This system controller has the ability to provide substantial processing capabilities in demanding applications, based upon a 2.1 GHz base frequency, utilizing turbo boost technology to increase the base frequency when performing single threaded tasks. The controller is the central processing component of a PXI chassis and is responsible for coordinating measurement and control processes in complex automated test systems. The PXI controller will support up to 16 GB of dual-channel DDR3 memory allowing for the efficient handling of large amounts of data and multi-tasking among the multiple computing cores present in this system.
Designed for hybrid test systems, the PXI-3980 features extensive connectivity for interfacing a wide range of instrumentation buses. The front panel features dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, each with one designated for use as a LAN port and the second used to control LXI-compliant instruments. Legacy and peripheral devices are supported through a built-in GPIB controller, via Micro-D connector and USB ports (high-speed USB 3.0 and USB 2.0). In addition, the unit features dual independent displays through its integrated VGA and DVI-I output connectors. Data logging and operating system hosting, for both hard disk drives and solid-state drives, are available through the PXI-3980's integrated storage options, with a SATA interface supporting each option.
The PXI-3980 is designed to meet industrial requirements and offers reliable operation over a defined temperature range as well as resistance to shock and vibration, especially when configured with an SSD. Synchronization is provided between the trigger I/O function of the PXI-3980 and the PXI backplane trigger bus via the front panel connector, allowing for coordinated triggering and timing throughout the entire test platform. The combination of the PXI-3980's powerful processor, numerous input/output options, and rugged design make it a suitable solution for use as a central controller in Automated Test Equipment (ATE), Data Acquisition Systems (DAQS) and Industrial Automation Solutions where reliability and integration are key considerations.
