Adlink PXI-3800/PM18 System Controller
The ADLINK PXI-3800/PM18 is a 3U PXI system controller that is suitable for use in demanding test and measurement systems. This embedded controller has a Pentium M 745 processor running at 1.8 GHz and has the Intel 855GME chipset. There is up to 2 GB of DDR RAM available using two SO-DIMM slots, which provide the computing power required for the data collection and analysis typically encountered in an industrial environment. In addition to the 2 GB of DDR RAM, there is a large 40 GB IDE hard disk for storing both the operating system and the applications used. Additionally, the large hard disk provides sufficient storage space for logging data.
The PXI controller was specifically designed for easy integration into PXI chassis and will allow users to have a single control point for all the instrumentation modules in their system. The controller has a multitude of input/output interfaces located directly on its front panel; these include two USB 2.0 ports, two serial COM ports, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a VGA video output. A key feature of this controller is the dual CompactFlash interface. One slot supports hot-swappable cards and allows users to easily add or remove additional storage for their systems. This provides a robust solution for adding additional storage that can be removed when needed for field applications. Users will also find an SMB connector located on the front panel that will allow them to route external trigger signals to and from the PXI backplane trigger bus, allowing users to integrate and synchronize their systems.
ADLINK’s rugged design of the PXI-3800/PM18 system controller provides users with a reliable means of completing their testing requirements in harsh environments. It operates over the temperature range of 0 to 55°C and has been designed to resist both shock and vibrations. Also, the PXI-3800/PM18 is compliant with PXI Revision 2.2 and therefore can be combined with a variety of other PXI peripheral modules. Therefore, the controller is a very important part of many types of applications, including automated test equipment (ATE), aerospace/military test systems, and data acquisition in manufacturing (where both deterministic performance and long-term reliability are required).
