ADLINK PXI-3710 3U PXI System Controller
The ADLINK PXI-3710 is a PXI 3U system controller for use in embedded computer systems and automated test and measurement (T&M) applications. The controller is the central processing unit of the system, directing the functions of other instrument modules in the chassis. The controller has been implemented on the Intel Pentium III processor platform with support for processor speeds up to 1.4 GHz and employs the Intel 815E chipset, which will help extend the product's lifecycle by allowing for continued support for this chipset from Intel. The PXI-3710 is completely compatible with the PICMG and PXI standards and has been tested for Hot Swap capability.
The system controller has all the necessary peripheral functions built-in to enable a small, self-sustaining computer. The controller can support up to 512 MB of RAM through its SDRAM (Sync DRAM) function and comes with an absolute minimum of a 40 GB hard disk. The System Controller also has multiple ways to store and transmit data; it has two IDE channels and two CompactFlash socket slots, with the second slot being able to be “hot-swapped.” All front panel connections are provided; these include a VGA connector that will support up to 1600 x 1200 resolution, two USB connectors, one serial connector, one parallel connector, and one 10/100 base T Ethernet connector. By having all of the I/O located on the front panel, you will have less need for outside connectors/adapters and this will make your system much easier to configure..
As a result of its reliability, durability, and performance, engineers have deployed the ADLINK PXI-3710 in a variety of demanding environments, including factory floor T&M systems, real-time data acquisition systems, and real-time control applications. In order to meet the requirements of these applications, the controller is ruggedized to operate in a wide temperature range and to withstand high levels of shock and vibration. Additionally, the controller provides engineering flexibility through the ability to support various operating systems, including Windows NT/2000/XP, Linux and VxWorks. An optional rear I/O transition module is available to allow for the routing of internal signals from the PXI instruments to the back of the PXI chassis when applications require video and/or serial communication I/Os.
